The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce that City Roofing and Siding, Inc., one of the Department’s valued contractors, has been selected to receive the 2025 Selected Organization Award from the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association (CRPA). The award will be presented on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center before an audience of more than 300 Parks and Recreation professionals from across the state.

City Roofing and Siding, Inc., a three-generation family-owned business owned by Mr. Matthew Lasek of Newington, was nominated by the Department’s administrative staff and the Newington Parks and Recreation Board in recognition of its outstanding support of Parks and Recreation initiatives.

The Selected Organization Award is one of CRPA’s most prestigious honors, presented annually to a business that demonstrates exceptional commitment to strengthening and supporting Parks and Recreation in Connecticut.

Below is the nomination letter submitted by the Department in support of City Roofing and Siding, Inc.

Dear CRPA Awards Selection Committee:

Please accept this nomination for Mr. Matthew Lasek, owner of City Roofing and Siding, Inc., for the 2025 Selected Organization Award.

It is with great enthusiasm that we submit this nomination for Mr. Matthew Lasek and City Roofing and Siding, Inc. for the prestigious 2025 Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association’s Selected Organization Award.

City Roofing and Siding, Inc., owned and operated by Mr. Lasek, demonstrated exceptional dedication, generosity, and community spirit through their recent work with the Newington Parks and Recreation Department. This year, the Department contracted City Roofing and Siding, Inc.  to replace the roof of the Clem Lemire Little League concession stand. During the estimation process, Mr. Lasek went above and beyond by reaching out to both his material supplier and a national shingle manufacturer to explore potential grant opportunities that could benefit the project.

Thanks to his initiative and strong professional relationships, Mr. Lasek was able to secure a significant donation of roofing shingles. He promptly provided our department with the necessary application materials, which ultimately led to the successful acquisition of the donated supplies. As a result of these contributions and the cost savings on materials, our department was able to extend the scope of the project and re-roof the dugouts at the Little League, softball, and 90-foot baseball fields - at no additional cost. Moreover, when Mr. Lasek noted that the gutter system at the facility was in need of replacement, he was also able to repair the project at no further cost.

This generous act not only enhanced the functionality and appearance of key recreational facilities in our community, but also resulted in substantial savings to our department's operating budget. Mr. Lasek’s efforts reflect a strong commitment to civic responsibility and highlight the valuable role those local businesses can play in supporting public recreation initiatives.

For these reasons and more, we wholeheartedly nominate City Roofing and Siding, Inc. for the 2025 CRPA Selected Organization Award.

Kindly,

William A. DeMaio, CPRP

Superintendent of Parks and Recreation
